Spectacle Recycling

Spectacle Recycling

Traditionally Lion clubs worldwide collect unwanted spectacles which are graded and sent to the third world where they can be used to help people who need them but cannot afford them. These glasses can provide instant restoration of sight for those with common refractive error conditions such as short- or long-sightedness. Something so simple is transformative for those individuals, enabling them to work and care for their families.  Pocklington & District Lions are proud to be part of this amazing project that not only recycles “waste” but also restores the sight for so many.

Just drop your unused Glasses in our Boxes (No Cases please) and we will collect, collate and forward them to the Lions Re-Cycling centre.

Spectacle donations are received at the collection centre in boxes and bags of all shapes and sizes. They are expertly sorted by Lions club members and volunteers. Those sent onto Medico France are then cleaned and graded for use in eye camps in Africa, India, and Eastern Europe. Every year over 300,000 pairs of spectacles are collected and sent to Medico France. Indeed, donations recycled through UK Lions Clubs, account for more than half of the total number of spectacles processed by Medico France.
