Reverse Advent calendar project in Pocklington and Market Weighton in support of Peoples Pantry in 2019-2021.
PDLC has supported families struggling for food locally, initially during lockdown, by having collection boxes on many streets across our area. Subsequently we organised a reverse advent box in 2020 and 2021, for clients of Peoples Pantry in Pocklington and Market Weighton. We encouraged donors to place 24 Christmas foods or small gifts into the box provided, over 100 boxes were donated each year
Here are a few of the lovely comments received by Lions and Peoples pantry, from the people contributing to the boxes
- “Thank you for letting me take part, I really enjoyed filling a box “
- “It was great taking part my children have loved choosing items for the box”
- “I just want to give something back at this time of year”
Here are a few messages from the hamper recipients:
- “We left the box until the Christmas morning as we couldn’t afford presents this year. We had tears of joy on seeing the contents”
- “Receiving the box has taken a huge weight off my shoulders for Christmas this year”
- “Thank you, it has made a huge difference to me, hopefully next year if things improve for me, I would love to contribute by filling a box myself”
- “Thank you so much to everyone who made this happen, I’m literally overwhelmed “
Pocklington and District Lions Club want to make a difference especially in serving the local community. Thank you so much to everyone that gave in any small way. We continue to fund raise and support local causes throughout the year and will be organising Reverse Advent boxes again in 2022
Young People Count, Pocklington
Back in 2014, Pocklington Lions made a donation to the funding which kick-started YPC. We are delighted to see the charity grow form strength-to-strength and to open their first premises in 2021. Like Lions, YPC are always on the look-out for volunteers to give a little time to help their community.
